Katrina and the Amazon drought

Hurricane Katrina, tropical storms in Central America and their lethal effects, the severe drought Amazon Basin with unnatural results are not entirely conscious of the aftermaths ... The gods of nature seem angry versus the Americans. U.S. is under pressure.

Perhaps we ought to do not forget the unfathomed words indicated by a leading climatologist, a few years ago: the climate is an unpredictable wild beast and we're chipping it with sticks "(W. Broecker).

I am not attempting to suggest that all disasters Natural are the direct result of humane action. But who dares say that there is no link? Who dares to say that the phenomenon of El NiƱo and angry all the disasters they have not one thing to do with innovative civilization and it is affect on natural ecosystems?

Who dares to say the destruction of the Amazon rainforest has not one thing to do with what happens?

Paul Lefebvre, a researcher running a station Surveillance of the Amazon, said ocean waters in the North Atlantic are warmer than popular storm conditions, which have a tendancy to promote evaporation, creating in the southern U.S. and Central America. And likewise that this warming high pressure systems south, in regions like the Amazon, causing the decrease in clouds and rain, creating less ...

Learn more: in terms of future the current drought in the Amazon may significantly reduce tree growth, which may impede the capacity of forests to absorb dioxide carbon than cars and industry to send in the atmosphere. Something that may intensify climate change, Amazon may become a share the problem of climate change, rather than portion of the solution.

Unfortunately, the international press and the political authorities do not gather and commune the problem in it is unfeigned dimension. The ways in which these difficulties occur, are without doubt or question incomplete.

The international press reproduced the words of President Lula of Brazil on the excessive damage and destruction drought of Amazonia. But ... What is the periodic destruction of the forest? The causes of warming waters in the North Atlantic?

In the case of Amazonia, we tend to forget that there are fires all day in the great forest. The Amazon is deforested at a ceaseless rate. Every day, even off-season burning, fire envelops the jungle. Each day, a piece the Amazon has disappeared. And that's not sufficient controversy, or publicity. And, not to mention it is affect on other natural disasters is ofttimes omitted.

The press release that the spectacular and sensational to meet buyer demand. underlying causes are steadily forgotten. Celebrities without emphasizing the source of our ills, we tend to forget. And unfortunately, the Amazon jungle is no longer a hero Chico Mendes.

Chico Mendez vs. Deforestation Mini-Documentary

Who killed Chico Mendes?

I am doing some school work and have to include who killed Chico Mendes please support me : )

Mendes left Brasilia and returned to Acre to promote the scheme of extractive reserves and to solicit help for the ecology measures discussed at the convention. He continued his work, built more schools, and supported the empate offensives until December 22, 1988, when he stepped from his house in the Brazilian town of Xapuri and into the path of a bullet.

The murder of Chico Mendes drew global attention, and over 1,000 mourners attended his funeral. The Brazilian government was compelled by the global advertising to seek out the killer. After two years of stalling, the gunman, Darci Alves da Silva, went to trial. He was convicted of the murder along with his father, Darly, who was convicted for his role in plotting the murder.

Mendes passed from physical life one week after his 44th birthday, leaving a wife and children. His introductory marriage to Maria Eunice Feitosa in 1969, ended in divorce. The couple had two daughters of whom only Angela, the eldest, pulled through past infancy. This marriage lasted a brief two years because his devotion to the cause of the tappers kept Mendes away from his family. In the 1980s, Mendes married a woman named Ilzamar, whom he had taught as a young girl on one of the rubber plantations. They had two children: Elenira, and Sandino.

5Entire coverage and understanding the amazon and brazil.
By Al Pier
It is a shocking reality that gives you entire understanding when it comes to amazon and its' people and environment. You will get lost in this beautifully written very sad real story. Thanks to andrew revkin. This book gravely today, needs more inviolable selling to reach out to more people specially to the big-heads who runs the international economy and money. One thing that is very crucial for our world: This book tells a story that still proceeds today and will regrettably proceed in the future, for this reason mr. revkin needs to update the book and carry on writing in regards to what has been happenning there now! Because even after the loss of Chico Mendes, things are still hot there, his soul never gave up I believe. And now Ms. Marina Silva quit her position lately and we want to know how things are going to shape for the future of brazil. If ever this reaches to mr. revkin. Must-read book.

5Inspirational account of the struggle to save the Amazon
By Brian Allen
This book is a vast education with regards to Chico Mendes, and all the political and personal attempts to protect the Brazilian Amazon. If you are mesmerized in this subject, upon reading this book it is almost like finishing an splendid college course on it.

Chico Mendes was born into a poor, rural Amazonia family of rubber trappers and from these very modest beginnings educated himself and worked his way to becomming a global focus of attention on the plight of the Amazon rainforest and it's guardians. Like Ghandi, he was a charismatic selfless leader of the poor that faced the continual violent opposition, here from ranchers and the corrupt local militia, and he also responded with successful non-violent actions.

This well researcherd book provides and necessary perspective from the Brazilians. It is their country and the whole world has been making demands on their Amazon forest because of it's international importance both environmentally and economically. Imagine the political stuggle in the United States if all of Europe and Asia were attempting to get us either to save all the forests of the Pacific Northwest (or the grasslands of the plains, or the forests of the east)or a heap of of them were paying us money, and alien aid to build roads to increase logging or bettering the agricultural output of the area. The development and struggle to manage the land use of the Amazon is very complex and the author, Andrew Revkin has illustrated it well.

I have always wanted to protect the Amazon, it is forests, birds and animals but I now also see the importance to protect it's humans both indigenous and the extractive specialists that Chico Mendes had represented. This book has shown how difficult that is with the pressure of the needs of all the other citizens of Brazil.

An splendid book, you will be glad you have read it.

2To a lot of markings
By Michele
I realize I got this book used and with a condition of good but the book has been marked up so much that it is very difficult to read. There are markings on each single page - yellow highlighter, green highlighter, pencil, black pen, blue pen not to mention the notes in the page margins. This book will have to have been marked adequate for the purpose and not one thing higher. The shipment was great and prompt but the inside condition of the book is poor at best
