100 greatest guitarists of all time, Carlos Santana
When you think when it comes to all the great guitarists over the years, a great deal of names come to mind - Carlos Santana is one of them. In August 2003, Santana was named fifteenth on the list of Rolling Stone top 100 guitarists all times. And for good reason. The Mexico-born guitarist has toured and recorded with great success since the late 60s. In the 90s it was rediscovered by a new generation with her debut album, Supernatural, taking part artists such as Rob Thomas and Eric Clapton.
Carlos Santana has it is roots in Mexico, where he grew up. He expended much time around the music that his father was a mariachi violinist. Santa made the violin at five, but eight past guitar. Later, when the family moved to Tijuana, started out playing in clubs and bars. In the early '60s, the family moved San Francisco and Santana followed. In 1966, devised Santana Santana Blues Band. I presently have no catcher because there just isn't anybody worth owning right now. I presently have a number of guys who I could drop for Carlos Santana, but I'm not sure who I'd want to give up. I have Cameron Maybin, Nyjer Morgan, Hunter Pence, Rich Harden, and Carlos Lee who I feel are worth dropping. I'm skeptical of dropping Lee and Morgan, and I want to keep Maybin. I'm mesmerized in who you think I must drop?
Not having anybody in the catcher spot is counter productive, specially in H2H. If you want to spend a roster spot on Santana, I would drop Harden of the persons that you mentioned. Drop whomever you are using the least.

33 of 38 humans found the following review helpful. joyful guitar workouts By Bodhi Heeren The surprise mega succes of "Supernatural" proved to be a double edged sword for the illustrious Carlos Santana. At one hand giving him a vastly enlarged fanbase after a lot of meager years commercially on the other hand it seemed to stiffen his originative output. Leading to a series of rather lame follow up albums. Albums that was a far cry from his engaging and originative concerts.
So it's fantasti with a Santana record focalized on the guitar magic of the maestro and the instrumental power of his more than capable band. The tracks written over a number of years cover lots of ground: jazz, smooth jazz, rock and ofc lots of latin. Some tracks might be rather sketchy but there are likewise a heap of real beauties all featuring the trademark melodic, fiery lead of Senor C.S., both on electric and acoustic. And on occasion even a good deal of intense jamming.
It's nice to listen his yearlong collaborator Chester 'C.T.' Thompson again, Dennis Chambers is ofc a drum legend, Raul Rekow the master of percussion, these humans know how to make the complex sound simple and easy. The album closes with two tracks featuring Carlos' son Salvadore Santana - a unfeigned master on the keyboards.
This is NOT a return to the visonary creative thinking of the 70s, "Caravanserai", "Illumination", "Love, Devotion, Surrender" but an enjoyable, sunshine filled collection of guitar music from one of the musical giants of our time.

Just in regards to each song feels at home, then again not one thing here beyond the title track is particularly memorable.. Canela, Nomad, & Metatron would be outstanding building blocks for a heavier album but I guess they'll have to linger here with this sleepy disc. Great artwork, production, and again capable playing but there's very little spark and closely no fire..still at least he ditched the random roundtable of guests, that's a step forward.

Shape Shifter By ANGLPZ "Shape Shifter" Santana's latest album is the best thing he's freed since "Milagro" in 1992... but giving careful consideration to how bad galore of his albums have been since then, do not forget "Guitar Heaven"? that's not saying much. "Shape Shifter" is good but not great. Compared to "Milagro" and everything freed before 1992 it doesn't hold a candle, but equated to "Supernatural", "Shaman", "All That I Am", and the new tracks from "Ultimate Santana" as well as the afore brought up "Guitar Heaven" it's fantastic. I've listened to it three times already today, and I find it to be just OK. Pleasant, but unremarkable is how I would describe it. Carlos's guitar solos begin to sound the same after a while, and none of the other musicians in truth stand out either. "Shape Shifter" has numerous nice moments on it, but I don't think it'll be in my top ten list of favored Santana albums of all time. HTH
